DEVELOPING CIVIL SOCIETY  THROUGH COMMUNITY ACTION

You need Acrobat Reader to read this file

Under the theme of developing civil society through community action, the week of June 11 to 16 2000, will focus on the essential role of citizens’ involvement and ways to strengthen the links among civil society organizations to increase their capacity to influence governments and existing policies.

The week will provide a rare opportunity for dialogue with the network of CLSC community organizers from all regions of Quebec, with those from community organizations all around North America who habitually participate in the Summer Program of the Institute in Management and Community Development – this year, there will be a large representation of Canadian community education workers– and community workers from countries around the world who will be attending this event.

The Summer Program, now in its eight year of operation, will provide an opportunity for training, allow participants to acquire new tools, dialogue together, improve strategies and discuss the issues and dilemmas encountered in their current practice.

We invite you to participate in the wealth of experience offered by this community development training week and start the new millennium together under the banner of international consulta-tion.

The International Conference on Community Development in the years 2000 (ICCD/CIAC 2000) was organized on the initiative of the RQIIAC ( Regroupement québécois des intervenants et intervenantes en action communautaire – association of workers from local community service (CLSC) and health centres in Quebec) with the following partners: the Institute in Management and Community Development of Concordia University, the Canadian Centre for International Studies and Cooperation (CECI), the Conseil québécois de développement social (CQDS) and the Corporation de développement écono-mique communautaire de Côte-des-Neiges et Notre-Dame-de-Grâce (CDEC CDN/NDG). In co-operation with the Summer Program of the Institute in Management and Community Development, ICCD/CIAC 2000 is offering a full week of dis-cussions and training for community development workers from around the world.

different cultures.

This fascinating city has a great deal to offer: beautiful Old Montreal, architectural marvels, many sports events, proximity to untamed nature and a well-developed tourism infrastructure for serving visitors.
